Hello Everyone!. Happy new year for all of you. This is my first writing in English in my blog (following Shirley's suggestion, a new friend I made this holydays). I hope don’t have critical mistakes who, especially, change the sense of my first message of this year.
In my free time, I've been listening talks and reading books about some things that surround us every day. Even now, physical and chemical laws are working to keep us make something basic as a breath. All these laws keep enough particles "glued", and as result create the species who live in this fragile blue point in the space who we call Earth.
Since I discovered some of the ideas who people that along our history have shared to the humanity, my perspective about the world and his boundaries has changed, radically. I put the word "some" because there are a lot of things that I've not explored, others that I don't (and won't) understand and most probably, I won't be able to see in my lifetime.
Why did I change my perspective about the world? We are more than 6 thousand million people in the earth and every one is unique... as the others however, then, why should we think that our perspective of life is better than others? Wouldn't be an advance to share our ideas rather than impose it to others...? Some of us are good imposing them by force, by fear or division. We know that the biggest power in this world are ideas, they provide a purpose to people and some give their lives to protect them and it's legacy. In fact we live in a sea of perspectives and the truth seems fuzzy for moments, but the facts and evidences provides us a light in the darkness of superstition and ignorance.
Why about the boundaries? Before Copernico, Kepler and Galileo, (just to name a few) we used to think that the earth was the center of the universe and the humanity the dome of God's creation. Now we know that the earth and his passengers are more a wandering traveler speck in the universe, and even more amazing, our galaxy (The milky way) harbors at least 100.000 million stars! and Is not the biggest... Furthermore, we know that us and all the species in the world are the result of millions of years of evolution, who keeps working in this moment...
I've just made two short meditations. I hope this lines will help people start to expand their spirit and see our world in a different way.
When I rise my eyes to heaven in the night, and see the Orion's constellation after a day's work, I feel that all my problems, concerns and needs are all so insignificant. It makes feel me a deep sense humility before the vast universe that awaits us. There are the moments when I feel grateful to be alive, and wondered for all the hidden mysteries from the world.
To finish, the sentence in the title is from Phil Plait "the bad astronomer". I found it while I was listening the "science symphony" in youtube, electronic songs with scientific lyrics and thoughts.
I wish you a happy new year again. As a bonus, I attached an interesting talk about our Loss of Wisdom by Barry Schwartz. Enjoy It!
